There Are No Words…

…literally, I cannot find the words to tell you how broken-hearted we are all here in the Ventura area regarding the recent fires, followed by the mudslides in the Montecito/Santa Barbara area.  These tragic events have cast a somber gloom over our city; everywhere I go I hear folks discussing some aspect of this devastating occurrence.

But, as you must realize, life goes on, one day at a time.  How have the past five weeks, since Dec. 4, 2017, affected the senior community here in Ventura Marina?  Several of our residents have family members who lost everything.   They have quietly moved in with mom and dad, grandma and grandpa, and are taking the steps from cleaning the debris, renovating or rebuilding, to finally moving back home.   It warms my heart to see residents pushing the babies in the strollers, far away from the devastation and trauma they witnessed.  Hopefully, someday this will be a distant memory.

I live in the Ventura Marina Community here in the Ventura Harbor.  We are so blessed to not have sustained any type of damage, other than the ashes which rained down for days.  Many of us woke up early in the morning the day the fires started to find we had no electricity.  I sat in my car to charge my phone, as did many of my neighbors.  As the days went by, we were all glued to our TVs, watching the unbelievable events taking place in our city.  Many of us donated our time, money, food, etc., to support the cause.  We made huge baskets for the firefighters and the Harbor Patrol, filled with requested items of sustainability.  We learned that firefighters do not eat food from someone’s kitchen–too dangerous, but we filled the baskets with individual items they could take with them while on duty–such as instant coffee, cream, sausages, cheese, crackers, granola etc.

This is one of the best cities in the world for moving forward and helping others.  Ventura Senior Community is a beautiful mobile home park, located across from the boat launch in the Ventura Harbor.  There are 310 manufactured homes, mostly newer since mid 2000 and up, all consisting of at least 2 bedrooms and 2 baths.  Many have 3 bedrooms.  There is a lake in the middle of the park, with 18 homes on lakeside, and approximately 18 homes with ocean view.  Come for a visit, stay forever.
